DATES: Friday Nov 10 - Sunday Nov 12, 2023 (with option to start on Sat if just 1 night is preferred)
WHAT: We will be going on a ONE or TWO night Appalachian Trail Hiking and Camping Trip jointly with Troop 485 at Pine Grove Furnace State Park (1.5 hours away). We will be staying at the youth group camping sites within the park. These sites are accessible by car - we will NOT be backcountry camping on this trip (we did a thought exercise on this and realized that backcountry camping would be too logistically complex and parks frown upon groups in the backcountry). Separate backcountry hikes will be planned for the scouts attending Philmont. Any Philmont scout is welcome to hike with a full pack for training purposes.
WE NEED ADULT VOLUNTEERS to drive scouts, chaperone various hike options and to camp. Please sign up! We have LOADS of space in the campsite. All ADULTS for these trips MUST be registered in advance with the troop AND their Youth Protection Training MUST be up to date.
There will be THREE hike options:
- A longer hike starting early on Saturday from the campsite area (out and back) for those who come up on Friday evening
- A medium hike leaving mid – morning on Saturday (for Friday or Saturday arrivals)
- A shorter hike (either to Camp Michaux or completing a nearby orienteering course) (for Friday or Saturday arrivals)
TIMING:
Drop Off: We will meet at the Mt Carmel Park and Ride. There are 2 options for meeting up depending on if you desire a 1 or 2 night trip:

*scouts wanting to do a longer hike must stay over on Friday. Friday departure is contingent on interest and chaperone availability.
