Join us for a morning of restorative beauty and a little networking at America's oldest rose garden. Elizabeth Park is celebrating its 120th year and the roses (and many other flowers) are expected to be at peak bloom! Family members are welcome to attend this event. Bring a chair or blanket and we will set up a spot on the lawn near the gardens where we can talk and eat. Light fare will be provided but feel free to pack your own picnic. Hot dogs and snacks are also available for purchase at The Snack Shack. At 11 AM, we will tour the medicine garden created and maintained by students and faculty of the University of Saint Joseph School of Pharmacy. The purpose for the garden is to provide education about the botanical origins of modern medicines and raise awareness about the drug discovery and development process. Following the tour, we can view the other gardens or take a walk through the park all while continuing to connect with one another. Free parking is available in the park and in the surrounding neighborhoods. Meet outside the Garmany Visitor Center (nearest the Asylum Ave entrance). Please leave extra time for parking and walking to our meeting point. The tour is part of the park's annual Rose Weekend so you can expect it to be busy. For those of you who might be traveling a distance or plan to bring family, consider making a day of it. Nearby attractions include The Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe Houses, The Connecticut Science Center, and Lake Compounce Amusement & Water Park. The Hartford Symphony will also be giving a free concert in downtown Hartford's Bushnell Park at 2 pm.
