Members Only Open House

Megan Hicks and Jack Abgott are graciously opening their home and grounds for viewing by our members. In 1954, H. Mather Lippincott designed this home for his family. The second (current) owners of the home have never substantially altered the original design. It is truly mid-century; exhibiting the modernist qualities of clean lines, volumetric geometries, a horizontal emphasis, open plan, and the absence of ornamentation tempered by the generous use of natural materials and light, as well as a nearly seamless embedment of the home in its landscape. Like many houses designed by architects for themselves, budget was an issue and experimentation was rampant. Instead of walnut, we have poplar and Masonite. Instead of conventional heating the house boasts a rather unique forced air radiant floor system.

As usual there will be light fare including tea or slider sandwiches, assorted summer salads, and desserts served.  Beverages include wine, beer, cider, ice tea and lemonade.   Information on the house and it's design elements will be available.  Jack, whose professional interests involve historic restoration, will be happy to answer any questions.
