About our ModeratorSte&rsquo;Keira Shepperson is the owner and founder of Triangle Doulas of Color, a birth and postpartum doula agency serving the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. She guides the vision of her company from her experience as a Certified Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, doula mentor, community-builder, and mother. She is committed to supporting women and families through the journey of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum to help them have a well-supported and empowering experience.&nbsp; She fell in love with birth at ten-years-old and was called into doula work from a young age. She earned her Bachelor&#39;s degree in Health Education &amp; Health Promotion from Radford University &ndash; concentrating her studies on maternal and infant health and health disparities that plague the African American community.&nbsp;After college, she worked as a Practice Manager of a midwifery practice and birthing center for nearly five years. There, she learned at the feet of midwives as a birth assistant and discovered her passion for helping families navigate the healthcare system during pregnancy. In 2017 she went on to be trained as a birth doula by DONA International. To gain more exposure, she worked in hospital-based doula programs at UNC Chapel Hill and WakeMed hospitals.&nbsp; In 2018, to combat the Black maternal health crisis, Ste&rsquo;Keira launched Triangle Doulas of Color, LLC and started hosting a monthly mom&rsquo;s group, Triangle Mamas of Color. During Covid, she served as a co-chair on the North Carolina Institute of Medicine&rsquo;s Maternal Health Task Force and became a published contributing author of The Mourning After,&nbsp;an anthology about Black Infant Mortality.&nbsp; Education, support, and community serve as the mission of her work with families. As a doula agency owner and mentor, she works to improve sustainability and support for her fellow birthworkers. Ste&rsquo;Keira uses her platform to speak publicly about maternal health, doula support, and topics related to motherhood and entrepreneurship. She plans to continue this work in an effort to make a positive impact in the lives of mothers, families, and future generations.
