Day 1: Historic Ramsey House (October 10th)
On October 10th, students will experience early Tennessee life at the Historic Ramsey House by touring the original 1797 stone mansion. They will learn about the Ramsey family’s significant contributions to the community through engaging stories and interactive activities. The day includes playing with toys and games from times past, offering students a fun way to connect with history just as the Ramsey children would have. Students will also participate in a butter churning demonstration, learning firsthand the effort involved in making this essential kitchen staple of the 18th century, with a tasty reward at the end (please note: contains dairy and gluten). Additionally, students will explore historical coloring pages that depict key aspects of the Ramsey family’s life and their home.

Day 2: Marble Springs State Historic Site (October 11th)
On October 11th, Marble Springs State Historic Site invites students to step back in time as they participate in a variety of activities highlighting life on the Tennessee frontier. Students will take part in a colonial-period militia drill, gaining a firsthand look at early American military practices. They will visit the Sevier Cabin, where engaging storytelling sessions will bring early Tennessee history to life. A trading game in the site’s tavern will demonstrate the importance of taverns and currency during the colonial period. The tour also includes a comparison of past and modern kitchens to highlight the evolution of cooking practices, and a visit to the loom house, where demonstrations of spinning, weaving, and natural dyeing techniques will showcase the artistry and skills of the era.
