Park Slope Singers present Haydn and Schubert Sunday January 14

Join the Park Slope Singers and the Musica Bella Orchestra as they present the work of two musical giants named Franz. The two Viennese composers’ works, Haydn’s Missa Brevis Sancti Ioannis de Deo and Schubert’s Mass in G, differ from each other both musically -- one is from the middle of the Classical period and the other from the early Romantic -- and in the texts they chose to set. In addition, they have chosen different ways to keep the text of these masses, which are set shorter, one by using a mostly syllabic setting of the text and other by using ‘telescoping,’ which has different voices sing different texts simultaneously.

Come enjoy the performance of these two staples of the choral repertoire and relish their differences. We’d love for you to join us.

We repeat this concert the following day with organ accompaniment only at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd at 7429 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge beginning at 4:00 pm..
