AI agents are already entering research workflows at various levels &ndash; from search assistants to co-scientist systems &ndash; but their deployment is outpacing our understanding of the user experience, governance, and data readiness. This interactive workshop brings together pioneering perspectives on AI in research from the global life sciences, federated digital infrastructures, and Research Data Alliance (RDA) communities. Discussions will be grounded in real-world deployment of AI (successes and failures), attempts to define AI-ready data and infrastructure, and practical guardrails for trustworthy, responsible, accountable, and privacy-preserving agentic systems. Through demonstrations and facilitated activities, participants will explore gaps in metadata, provenance, and infrastructure; address equity and sustainability concerns around &ldquo;AI for everything&rdquo;; and identify upskilling needs for researchers, data stewards, and agents alike. The goal of the workshop is to provide initial thoughts on responsible agentic AI, how to connect ongoing efforts across infrastructures, and inform discussions planned during the RDA plenary sessions.
