Made from reclaimed materials, The Ruffined Retreat gives old materials a new purpose, and your best friend a place to
call their own.
A quartz countertop and brass hardware give this furniture-style doghouse a polished finish, while reclaimed wood from a
Kentucky horse farm adds warmth and character to the interior. The Interior lighting can be switched on or off, and a built-in
food and water bowl drawer at the bottom right keeps mealtime neatly tucked away.
Built for a good dog and an even better cause.

We started with a conventional doghouse hound on facebook marketplace as a point of departure for the project. The idea was simple, inspired by a dogtro style house we cut the traditional doghouse in half, separated it, and bridged it with a single slope roof made from found lumber and reclaimed SSMR. this created an opportunity for screened in clerestory window and a 2 wing design with a lounge in the middle. This project aims to show how old forgotten designs and materials can be brought back to life with the right imagination.

The Keenel draws inspiration from Keeneland and translates its limestone buildings, arched openings, and copper roofs into a luxurious doghouse. The design celebrates Lexington's equestrian heritage and creates a beautiful shelter for your dog. The CNC-carved wood façade reinterprets Keeneland's limestone masonry through digital fabrication. An arched entrance gives the doghouse a distinctive architectural identity, while the salvaged copper roof will develop a rich patina over time. Inside, salvaged beadboard adds warmth and texture. Together, these reclaimed materials give existing resources a new purpose and make reuse an integral part of the design. With familiar forms and carefully crafted details, The Keenel treats the doghouse as a small work of architecture, bringing a touch of the Bluegrass to a traditional doghouse.
