In addition to Khayal, he is a master of Thumri, Bhajan, Rabindra Sangeet, and even film music. His celebrated collaboration with jazz musicians at Preservation Hall in New Orleans earned him honorary citizenship of the city. Born in Kolkata, Pt. Chakrabarty was a child prodigy who began singing before he could speak. His initial training came from his father, Sh. Ajit Chakrabarty, followed by rigorous tutelage under the eminent Pt. Jnan Prakash Ghosh and Ustad Munawar Ali Khan, son of the legendary Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
