A young foster child went to school where her teacher assigned the class to create a family tree of their relatives, a project meant to symbolize connections and roots. When it came time for this little girl to create her family tree, she felt uncertain and sat in the thoughts that her life looked so widely different then her classmates. She walked to the front of the class and hesitantly told her teacher, &quot;I don&#39;t have a family tree.&quot; The teacher tenderly hugged her student and said, &quot;you don&#39;t have a family tree, but you have something even more special. You have a family garden.&quot; This metophor resognated with the child, helping her understand her unique family, comprised of friends, teachers, mentors, caregivers and all those who helped her become who she is. Thus, the Garden Gala was born. This event celebrates the diversity of family and love that is cultivated for foster children and foster families right here in Marion County. &nbsp;
