Francisco José Suárez Barrera, known as ‘El Torombo,’ is a celebrated street flamenco artist recognized for his dynamic twists, turns, and remarkable footwork, all delivered in a raw, untamed, and highly expressive style.

He received the nickname ‘Torombo’ at the age of nine from his teacher, the legendary dancer Farruco, symbolizing a powerful force of nature.

The legend of Torombo captivates audiences with his extraordinary flamenco dance, where his feet seem to blaze with energy while his imagination soars. Driven by a deep passion for his art, he constantly aspires to share the beauty of flamenco with the world.

José Suárez, or “El Torombo,” is not only a prominent Romani educator and activist but also a living flamenco legend.He began his journey at the age of seven, learning from esteemed masters such as Pepe Ríos, Isidro Vargas, Farruco, and Mario Maya. Farruco's encouragement played a pivotal role in shaping his identity as “El Torombo.”

His achievements as a dancer are complemented by his substantial contributions as an educator and community advocate. Torombo has pioneered efforts to bring flamenco into prisons and has made it accessible to students with disabilities across Spain.

Additionally, he founded the “Fuera de Serie” Project, which aims to empower adolescents and young people from underprivileged communities by providing them with opportunities for artistic expression and personal growth. Through his work, Torombo is creating pathways for future generations to explore and embrace the transformative power of the arts.
