We&#39;re taking a break from politics and economics in our next salon to reflect on what it means to meaningfully connect with others. In a world of quick takes and shallow interactions, what does it mean to really know another human being? Using the ideas from David Brooks&rsquo; latest book, How to Know a Person, we&rsquo;ll discuss how to move beyond small talk and self-focus. How can we become the kind of person who brings out the depth in others&mdash;in our friendships, families, workplaces, and beyond? Please read/listen to the <a fr-original-style="" href="https://www.amazon.com/How-Know-Person-Seeing-Others/dp/059323006X/" rel="noopener noreferrer" style="text-decoration-color: initial; user-select: auto; box-sizing: inherit;" target="_blank">book</a> in advance to get the most out of the conversation. We also ask that you come prepared with one question you can use to get to know someone better. We ask that you think beyond &ldquo;How&rsquo;s it going?&rdquo; Or &ldquo;What do you do?&rdquo; Some suggestions from pages 90-91 of Brooks&rsquo; book include: &ldquo;What crossroads are you at?&rdquo;&ldquo;What would you do if you weren&rsquo;t afraid?&rdquo;&ldquo;If we met a year from now, what would we be celebrating?&rdquo; We&#39;ll be serving coffee, bagels, and donuts.
