Did you know that avocado skins can dye fabrics and fibers a light dusty pink color? Or that shifting the color with iron can create a dusty mauve color? Have you seen the beautiful gold/yellows that come from yellow onion skins? If you are intrigued by these questions, and excited to liberate your food scraps from the compost bin, read on! On Sunday, June 7, from 2-5PM you are invited to join Polum Bolum in exploring how we can use natural dye techniques to coax color from the well known food scraps: avocado skins and onion skins! We will start with the absolute basics of natural dye techniques- participants will learn how to prepare fabrics and fibers for dye, and then we will make our two dye pots. Class participants will also learn how to use Shibori techniques for binding fabric to create interesting patterns, adding interest and beauty to the final creations.
