Registered program participants are led by local BIPOC professional/non-professional drummers and dancers to warm-up to African beats and move their bodies in African dance styles. Family members of the participants and community members that walk by are always welcomed to participate. These activities occur in a public place frequented by neighbors and the residents of Frasier Meadows retirement community. The adult and young adult coaches of color contribute significantly by encouraging participation and promoting community cultural art. .
Our program emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural traditions for future generations. By incorporating elements of traditional drumming, dancing, and storytelling into its curriculum, the program ensures that these valuable cultural practices are passed down and kept alive within the community. This commitment to cultural sustainability helps to strengthen the community's sense of identity and pride. This program creates a leadership path for young adults to take on the role of mentors, counselors, coaches and/or cultural ambassadors.
