The mission of The Eric Murdock Foundation (EMF) is to provide assistance in enhancing communities, their environments and the resources for those who live in them, especially our youth. The specific objectives and purpose of this organization shall be:a.         to improve the community;b.         to provide resources, services and supplies for the youth;c.         to sponsor, host and/or participate in events and activities that promote the betterment of the community or assist youth. EMF X David and Phillip Miller Park Initiative: The Eric Murdock Foundation is working together with the Hobbstown and Bridgewater communities to restore the David and Phillip Miller Park that includes the children’s playground and basketball courts in Hobbstown.   The park is named after two of EMF’s founder’s Uncles who both played major roles in raising and influencing generations of youths in the neighborhood, including Eric. The park and basketball court were a cornerstone of Eric’s childhood. It was where he and his cousins learned their values, dignity, respect, selflessness, etc. The court was everything to them growing up. It was the one thing they looked forward to as they were dismissed from school - competing, having fun, and playing the game they all loved. It was a place a lot of them used as an escape from their circumstance of poverty. It produced a number of high-level basketball players and some professional players (NBA and Overseas). A community park should provide residents a place to enjoy the outdoors and spend time with their loved ones. However, the David and Phillip Miller Park has fallen to the natural elements of time and mother nature and is no longer a very inviting community space. The basketball court is cracked, unsafe, and abandoned, while the playground is non-appealing and not accessible to all. They are in need of a total makeover. EMF has also partnered with Bridgewater Township in its fundraising efforts. Last year, the township council passed a resolution setting up a dedicated trust for the foundation funds to be used for public facilities. In addition, EMF worked with the Township and obtained a $63,000 grant in June 2024 from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Local Recreation Grant for improvements to the basketball facilities at David and Phillip Miller Park in the Hobbstown section of Bridgewater. Getting this initial investment of grant funds is exciting and will further motivate me and others to realize the neighborhood's vision for our park.  EMF will continue to work hard to help the community.
