As baking fever hits the country, the village fete organisers in the village of Crabblebottom are preparing for their annual confectionary competition. This year a new celebrity chef, Eduardo D'Angelo, has moved to the village and has agreed to help judge the competition. This decision is not popular with Patricia McLaren, who has always judged the competition in the past. Patricia isn't shy about making her feelings known to the committee members, headed up by retired army officer Major Gordon Watt (can he possibly be as clueless as he seems?) and Philip Stanton (married to ardent baker Hilary—a conflict of interest?).
Adding to the usual tension of competition, tempers flare as Patricia clashes with Eduardo, the fete committee members, and the bakers, several of whom may not be as innocent as they appear. (What does Sarah really use for her secret ingredients, and why did her husband disappear? Is Hilary trying to pass off store-bought cakes as her own? Why is Caroline acting so flustered? What do Sophie and Maisie keep whispering about?)
When the bake-off turns into a bump-off, Detective Sam Nelson, who fortuitously attended the fete to get Eduardo's autograph, must step in and figure out whodunnit (or do we mean donut?). But Sam can't solve the mystery by herself. Their fete is in your hands!
Note: Since this is a murder mystery, it contains discussions of murder and motives for murder that might upset or not interest young children, so we recommend ages 16 and up for this event.
