Casa María Pía, a design studio rooted in Mexican art and founded by María Pía Rodríguez, creates pieces that blend traditional craftsmanship with a contemporary aesthetic. Burnished clay from Michoacán.
This piece is the result of a collaboration between Casa María Pía and the Espicio family, artisans from the community of Huáncito in the municipality of Chilchota, Michoacán, part of the region known as the “Cañada de los Once Pueblos.”
The vessel is made using the traditional technique of hand-painted burnished clay, an artisanal practice of deep cultural significance now preserved by only two families in the region.
Created specifically for Becas Alas, the piece is unique and reflects a legacy passed down through generations, reinterpreted through a contemporary language.
