Beginner Rope Intensivea workshop with <a href="https://www.instagram.com/parkerropeboi" target="_blank">Parker</a> &amp; Elliein person in New York City's WOW Cafe Theater This intensive workshop delves into the practice of rope bondage / shibari with experienced practitioners Parker and Ellie. Through step-by-step instruction and hands-on practice, participants will learn multiple techniques for tying and being tied.  In addition to rope handling and ties, the workshop models and teaches methods of communication, negotiation, consent, body awareness, risk assessment and risk reduction regarding rope/shibari play.Some of the specific knots, frictions, and ties covered in the workshop include: <ul><li>forward tension and reverse tension</li><li>square knot</li><li>overhand knot</li><li>half-hitch, munter hitch, lark's head</li><li><a href="https://vimeo.com/623775535">Somerville Bowline single-column tie</a> with applications for a wrist cuff, ankle cuff, or waist rope</li><li>a double-column cuff for tying two limbs together</li><li>an arms-free chest harness; </li><li>tying bodies in various positions using just column ties and frictions</li><li>adjusting rope tension, placement, and angles in the moment for the particular person and purpose</li></ul> Beginners welcome!  No prior experience required.  No partner or special equipment needed.  What you need for the workshop: If you already have your own rope, please bring it. Known for their daredevil self-suspension performances, Parker is also a versatile rope top who enjoys tying others and sharing their passion for rope. Parker considers rope to be a versatile medium for enabling and disabling corporeal possibilities, presenting and overcoming impasses, instigating intense sensations, and suspending bodies in space. As an educator, Parker enjoys breaking down complex scenes and into teachable skills and techniques. Parker respects and appreciates that all bodies are different and that there are no “one-size-fits-all” techniques. Parker strives to foster an inclusive, affirming environment for adults of all bodies, histories, and identifications to learn and enjoy rope. Parker offers workshops and private lessons for levels ranging from novice to advanced. Parker lives in New York City and has been hosting the monthly Queer Rope Social rope jam at WOW Cafe Theater since 2021.
