Behind the Language: A Job Interview Workshop for ASL Interpreters

Zoom

During this workshop interpreters can expect to learn how to better understand common interview questions in English that lead to misunderstandings in ASL. We will learn the nuances of the true intentions behind common interview language.

Some common questions:

·       What are your strengths?

·       When was a time you were challenged?

Join us to get the true meaning from an HR professional. Participants can be expected to role-play common interview scenarios involving a Deaf interviewee and hearing interviewer.

Format:

- We will start with a role play scenario from volunteers.

- KJ will discuss the intention of at least 6 common questions asked during interviews.

- After the presentation, we will have at least one other role play scenario.

Presented in English with student/intern interpretation.
