As a fundraiser for the Donald Teeters Memorial Music Fund, violinist Betsy Hinkle presents a program featuring works by Jessie Montgomery, Bach, and Brahms. Montgomery wrote her first Rhapsody as an exploration of what a solo violin composition can be: an emotional soliloquy, an energetic show of fiery technique, and a story the audience can imagine. She most definitely was inspired by the works of Bach. His solo works are monumental and showcase their instruments beautifully, and the a minor solo violin sonata, which includes a wonderfully relentless fugue and one of the most gorgeous andante movements, is no exception. The program concludes with a work that embodies stormy romanticism: the Brahms d minor sonata for piano and violin featuring sought-after collaborative pianist Eoin Clark. Proceeds support the Donald Teeters Memorial Music Fund, which goes to two major projects in our sanctuary: the restoration of the Rose Window and the restoration and installation of a new-to-us vintage organ, Skinner Opus 435.
