The Niedermeier General Store is an icon in Berlin Township. It was built in 1905 as the Herman Niedermeier and Sons Store and was stocked with  all of the latest provisions, including coal-fired heating stoves, household accessories, kerosene lamps and oil, hardware, kitchen utensils, yard goods, sewing material, footwear, and groceries. It later became known as the Niedermeier General Store and served the residents of Newport and Berlin Township until the 1950s.
