Billy Hurt was involved in the safety and rescue of sprint car drivers for over 23 years, helping to lead safety efforts with several racing organizations. He tragically lost his life in an ATV accident while responding to an on-track crash on March 14, 2026. Billy had a true love for racing and an unwavering commitment to safety. He took what he did seriously because he genuinely cared about the drivers, crews, and teams on track. Billy never met a stranger. He always had a smile, made people feel welcome, and was always willing to help anyone who needed it. Billy truly loved what he did, and it showed in every interaction. His dedication, kindness, and passion for the sport left a lasting impression on the racing community. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
