Your guides, long-time birding enthusiasts Bill and Mae Mayville, will share their knowledge of bird identification, sounds, and behavior while leading you through the peaceful trails. Following the bird walk, guests may explore the grounds further and also take in the museum’s indoor exhibits. Home-baked refreshments provided by your guides.

During this 45-minute experience your hosts will share some of the museum’s “hidden gems,” with opportunities to ask questions and learn more details about the museum and its collection. Afterward, guests will continue their tour independently, further exploring the exhibits or enjoying the trails and other outdoor experiences on the museum grounds. Home-baked refreshments provided by your hosts.

Experience an elegant Afternoon Tea for four people in the sylvan beauty of the museum’s accessible treehouse. Guests will be served a menu of tea sandwiches, cake, and biscuits during this charming yet absurdly impractical endeavor, which will dwell upon the enjoyment of picturesque splendor in an elevated location (rather than the shocking impropriety of being so far from a proper drawing room). Hosted by Miss Austen’s ardent admirer and particular friend, Mae Mayville

“The sycamore tree cloaks itself in combat fatigues, but the camouflage doesn’t fool the yellow-bellied sapsucker. Yes, that’s his name—the yellow-bellied sapsucker. But what else could you call a bird with a yellow belly that drills a pegboard girdle around a tree trunk to sip the sap that wells therein and, incidentally, to ingest the insects that are attracted to the feast and stick around to be feasted upon. Sycamore is but one of the 277 flavors he favors.” – Charley
