*** This class WILL be recorded and available for replay to ticket holders and NAVA members. **ANYONE IS WELCOME, NOT JUST NAVA MEMBERS--SHARE AWAY!** That “dream client” in your inbox could be a casting director with a great project... or a scammer with a great script. As a voice actor, you’re approached by strangers all the time, which means the bait can look a lot like the real thing. In this session, Billie Jo Konze and George Whittam pull back the curtain on the scams going after voice actors: fake casting calls, impersonators, payment schemes, phishing, sketchy downloads, and the newest AI-powered tricks aimed at your voice. Using real-world examples, they’ll show you the red flags to look for, how to verify an opportunity before you trust it, and the practical steps that protect your money, your accounts, and your voice. Already clicked, replied, downloaded, or shared something you now regret? No judgment. You’ll learn exactly what to do next. Then test your instincts with real examples in a round of “Booked or Baited?” Will you spot the scam, or take the bait? Here's what you'll learn:

How to recognize the most common scams targeting voice actors, including fake jobs, impersonation, payment scams, phishing, and questionable AI/voice requests.

How to investigate a casting opportunity, client, sender, website, link, or request before deciding whether to trust it.

The psychological tactics scammers use, and the red flags that should make you slow down.

Practical tech do’s and don’ts for handling links, attachments, downloads, software installations, payments, passwords, and remote access safely.

What to do next if you think you’ve already interacted with a scam or compromised an account, computer, or personal information.

Meet Your Instructors: George The Tech Whittam & Billie Jo Konze George Whittam If it plugs in, clips, hums, or glitches in a voiceover studio, George has probably fixed it. Since 2005, he’s made it his career to solve the technical headaches of voice actors, podcasters, and studio owners. In August 2017, he launched GeorgeTheTech.com, a one-stop shop that provides tech support, training, studio design, and audio processing templates for anyone who records voiceover. Thousands of hours of research into studio design, recording gear, and training materials have made him one of the most trusted names in voiceover technology worldwide. His client list includes the late Don LaFontaine, Simon Vance, David Kaye, David Pogue (CBS), Melissa Disney, Tara Strong, Joe Cipriano, and Scott Rummell. Also, George is now an author! George's book The Voice Recording Handbook is coming soon!
