Boris Johnson is coming to the University of Iowa on November 2nd!!! Boris Johnson is a British politician, journalist, and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Born on June 19, 1964, in New York City, he was educated at Eton College and later studied Classics at Balliol College, Oxford. Johnson began his career as a journalist, writing publications including The Times and The Daily Telegraph, where he became known for his distinctive and often humorous writing style. Johnson entered Parliament as a Conservative MP in 2001 and served as Mayor of London from 2008 to 2016, gaining national prominence during his two terms in office. Johnson became a leading figure in the campaign for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union during the 2016 Brexit referendum. He became Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister in July 2019, overseeing the UK's departure from the European Union in January 2020 and leading the government through much of the COVID-19 pandemic. Bringing Boris Johnson to the University of Iowa to discuss Saving the West is an opportunity to inspire and educate the next generation of leaders. Many students are leaving college without a strong understanding of American history and the foundations of Western Civilization. Bringing Boris Johnson to the University of Iowa gives students the opportunity to hear directly from an international leader who can challenge them to think more deeply about the history, values, and ideas that have shaped the West into what it is today. In times where the University ranks very low on freedom of speech, Boris Johnson’s speech and presence will help in solving those wounds of division on campus and bring dialogue and expression back to our great campus.
