In addition, your membership dues and any additional donation are tax deductible (see below for details)! 2026 was another busy year for the Historical Society, with our 23rd annual Ice-Out Raffle, the Helen Daly &amp; Margaret Stone Ice Cream Social, a talk at the Brookfield Old Town Hall on the Phillips-Lynde Family, a poster display in Hippo Park with history assignments from Brookfield Elementary School students, and demonstrations of 19th-century sewing machines and a mending workshop at the Marvin Newton House. We hope you had a chance to visit the 2026 exhibit at the Marvin Newton House, &quot;Tending and Mending&quot;, which highlighted how Brookfield residents mended, reused, and cared for the things in their daily lives - a spirit of thrift and self-reliance that, in its own way, echoes the work of tending and mending a community over 250 years.&nbsp; We are also very happy to announce that, with support from members and grants, this summer we installed a fire alarm system at the Marvin Newton House, allowing us to better protect this gem of local history in Central Vermont for future generations. In addition to our semiannual newsletter, your membership helps us to continue to provide public programing and for the considerable maintenance for the Marvin Newton House and its collections.&nbsp; The only benefit of membership is the Society&#39;s semiannual newsletter. Under IRS guidelines the estimated value of that benefit is not substantial; therefore, the full amount of your membership payment and of any additional gift is a deductible contribution.
