Purchase a raffle ticket to benefit our Boys of Summer -- three desperate animals pulled out of the slaughter pipeline -- Gabriel, Ben, and Chaplain.  Gabriel -- a 15 year old Standardbred gelding who should be in the prime of his life -- instead he stood in the pen emaciated, with painfully swollen front legs from overwork, and a badly injured eye with lashes scraping agonizingly over it with every blink.  Why was he dumped?  He can no longer work.  Ben -- a 6 year old Belgian -- just a baby -- but has already lost one eye to cancer and there is active cancer in his remaining eye.  He was dumped because no one wants to try to save his eye and stop him from becoming blind.  And 23 year old Chaplain -- worked to near collapse, emaciated, and exhausted -- much in need of retirement but also dumped because he can no longer work.   These animals are safe in quarantine and we are taking care of all of these issues.  Expenses mount up quickly even in an uncomplicated situation -- we have already expended >$8000 on preliminary vetting, quarantine board, and attention to the badly neglected feet of all three.  Gabriel's damaged eye had no vision and had to be removed immediately because it was causing him agonizing pain.  He is much more comfortable now and needs recovery time.  Ben will have extremely high veterinary expenses because he needs an ophthalmology consult and cancer treatment to preserve his vision.
