The Great Ignatian Challenge is a spirited food drive competition among Catholic high schools to collect food for neighboring non-profits for Thanksgiving. The Challenge was intended to highlight the collective service power and generosity among the participating high schools. Since 2016, the number of participating schools has grown to 22, and over 1.45 million pounds of food has been collected and distributed across local area food banks, community centers, and aid organizations.
Xavier Mission is a for-impact organization located next door to Xavier High School. They provide food, clothing, life-skills training and mentoring, and eviction prevention/financial assistance to tens of thousands of New Yorkers each year. The Xavier HS food drive helps Xavier Mission serve more than 4,000 meals at Thanksgiving to senior, homebound, and low-income and unhoused families and individuals in the community.
