Girls Who Hack will be holding an introduction to cyber security class at the Winter Haven Fl. Girls Inc. office from 9:00 to 1:00 on Saturday September 7th 2024. Morning snack and lunch provided. The target age group is 12 to 17, but is open to younger kids that have a strong desire to be in tech and the proper aptitude in using computers. These classes will be taught by 17 year old Bianca ‘BiaSciLab’ Lewis, best known for hacking a mock election reporting system in 11 minuets when she was 12 at the DEFCON hacker conference. This is a great opportunity to learn about careers in cyber security and some valuable technical skills with our hands on classes.
Staying Safe Online – Learn from someone who knows all the tricks the bad guys will use to try to steal your accounts, money and information and how you can keep from becoming a victim yourself.
Soldering – Get started in electronics by learning this valuable skill as you solder the Girls Who Hack beginner soldering kit. This skill can be used to fix things, build robots, wearable electronics and more!
Introduction to Terminal – How do cyber security engineers interact with computers and servers? Through the terminal! This class will get you started and leave you with the ability to continue your adventure on your own!
Age: 12 and Up - This is a hands-on technical class, students should be able to type ('hunt and peck' is OK)
Students will walk away with some unique skills, a soldering kit and other free goodies! This is an opportunity to get started in this amazing, high paying career that desperately needs more diverse skilled people.
We are looking to fill this 20 seat class on a first come, first served basis. If there is enough demand we will open an afternoon session.
