CEU's will be provided.  Speakers include Elizabeth McCarron, LCSW, Director of Outpatient Services, Laura Whitman, M.Ed., NCC, LPC, Clinical Supervisor, and Shannon Mazzei, NDTR. Presentation overview: Historically the treatment of eating disorders in higher levels of care have been based on a medical model approach, because of the significant health risk caused by the symptoms of these disorders. Interwoven within this approach, clinical providers have worked with clients to externalize the eating disorder’s behaviors and cognitions, as something outside of their control that needs to be fought and defeated. While the medical stability of clients must always remain primary in the treatment of eating disorders, becoming hyper-focused on the psychopathology of the disorder, often leads both the client and clinical team into a winning less battle. Despite good intentions, providers often become rigid, like their clients, in their own focus on treatment that lends itself to power struggles and low motivation from the client. As providers, we must first evolve in our own thinking and attitudes toward working with our clients and in treating eating disorders. During the past year, the Nourish partial program has operated from a holistic treatment model. The goal of the multidisciplinary team of professionals at Nourish has been to empower these adolescents toward their own definition of wellness. This presentation will reflect on the journey of this past year, using individual case studies, and show how applying individualized treatment care is necessary, but rarely easy in its application.
