Get excited! Troop 172 has been selected to participte in a 12-day trek at Philmont in the summer of 2026. Now is the time for us to put a crew together and begin training. Here are some details. Philmont Details: - Located in Cimmaron, NM - Founded in 1939 - World’s largest youth camp at 140,171 acres - Elevation ranges from 6,500 to 12,441 ft - 22,000 to 25,000 participants expected in summer of 2026 Trek Details: - June 7th, 2026 to June 20th, 2026 o This includes one night of layover on the way to Philmont - Crew size 8 to 12 o 3-4 adults preferred - Youth must be 14 years old by 6/8/26 - Strict maximum height and weight requirements - https://www.philmontscoutranch.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Height-Weight-10.18.19-Version.pdf - Minimum 2 participants must complete Wilderness First Aid Certification – more preferred - Minimum 2 participants must be CPR certified – more preferred Payment Details: - $150 deposit per person due immediately to hold your spot - Advance of $787.50 per person due by 9/30/2025 - Balance of $787.50 per person due by 2/28/2026 - Expect additional fees for the following o Certifications mentioned above ($100-$120) o Custom crew shirts ($80-$100) o Travel expenses to and from Philmont ($100-$150) o Spending money for trading post ($75-$125) For those who don’t know, Philmont is considered the crown jewel of BSA’s high adventure camps. Participating in Philmont is nothing short of transformative, building character, resilience, leadership skills, team dynamics, scouting skills and physical fitness. For many scouts, this trip is the highlight of their scouting career.
