In this session you will learn how the vagus nerve operates, how its various states of activation affect you and your students, and gain understanding of common behaviors that indicate an unbalance of the system. We will practice simple, practical, fun classroom activities that will activate the vagus nerve to promote a calm, attentive, social state in your students. We will have time for discussion of a few specific examples from your classroom to problem-solve as a group. Come and experience monkey math, the zookeeper’s dilemma, dot-to-dot moving and many other creative math activities. Teachers will practice teaching patterns, classifying and sorting, number recognition, adding and subtracting, graphing and other kinesthetic math activities that seem like play but teach important math skills. Incorporating Music into your Theme Based CurriculumBrittany Teigland, Preschool – 4th Grade Music Teacher, SE Christian SchoolPreschool is full of exciting thematic units! Join me for ways to infuse engaging music into your themes throughout the year. Songs will include instruments, movement, make believe play and dance. Take your students on a ride into outer space while experiencing the music of Hoist. Allow your students to explore ways they can use their voices as we learn to speak Moo. Acquire practical and fun activities in each area that can be easily incorporated into a preschool classroom. How to Build a Calming Toolkit with Conscious DisciplineJessica Basile, Art Teacher & Preschool Teacher at CCP and Bonnie Parker, Admin and Teacher at CCPAn upset child who is not given the proper tools and guidance to self-regulate and solve problems can cause unwanted behavior and disengagement from social setting and learning opportunities. In this class we will be coaching teachers of young children on different ways to set up a Safe Place with age-appropriate tools and strategies from the research-based Conscious Discipline methods by Dr. Becky Bailey. We will also introduce the “I Love You Rituals.” There are a variety of methods for one-on-one connection through a means of presence and playfulness setting the stage for optional human connection and meaningful bonds in the classroom, home, and community.
