As we approach the one-year anniversary of the devastating floods along the Guadalupe River that impacted our Kerr County communities and claimed 119 lives, we are reminded of why we train so hard. The Center Point Volunteer Fire Department answered the call, faced the challenge, and prevailed&mdash;not only during the recovery phase, but the moment the alarm sounded to deploy boats and rescuers into the swift moving waters of the Guadalupe River where they saved those living victims desperately clinging on to trees and floating debris.&nbsp; Aside from structural firefighting, swift water rescue is one of the most dangerous missions a department can face. It requires specialized equipment and rigorous training&mdash;both of which rely heavily on community and corporate funding. Our members dedicate countless hours to training and sacrifice precious moments with their families to answer the call for Center Point and our surrounding neighbors.
