Spend a splendid fall afternoon immersed in the natural beauty of La Joya Farms, a 550-acre working farm managed with wildlife in mind. Owners Hank and Kelly Taliaferro have worked with RGALT to protect 330 acres of the farm with permanent conservation easements. With over 5 miles of Rio Grande riverfront, the farm is a hotspot for migratory and resident birds and serves as critical wintering habitat for sandhill cranes, snow geese, numerous waterfowl species, and beautiful waterbirds such as white-faced ibis. We are likely to see raptors, roadrunners, numerous types of sparrows, meadowlarks, wrens, and woodpeckers as we walk along the woodland edges and farmed fields. Guests will be taken around the farm in small groups led by local expert bird guides. Expect to walk approximately 1.5 miles on uneven terrain. After the bird walk, we will reconvene at the farmhouse for a delicious New Mexican dinner chatting with friends under the covered patio as the sun sets over the farm fields and Rio Grande valley. From Highway 60 (exit 175), drive 3 miles east to NM-304/ La Joya. Turn right (south) on NM-303. In approximately 6 miles, you will enter the town of La Joya.
