Register your child for Chess Club at Picnic Point Elementary! ♟️Thursdays, 3:30&ndash;4:45 p.m. in the Library. This Spring session of Chess Club, with nine (9) classes, will hold the first class on April 2nd. We will meet weekly and hold the final class on June 11th. We will not meet on April 9th or May 28th. Two coaches, both with significant tournament and coaching experience, will teach this class, to ensure that there is a group for both beginner and advanced students. The coaches will be Coach Travis (U.S. Chess rating 1910) and Coach Slava (FIDE 1852). All students K - 5, from those just learning the piece movements to tournament players, are welcome to join! Each class will consist of: 20 minutes of warm-up games while coaches help students by providing tips.20 minutes of lesson time, learning a new topic within each group.30 minutes of practice tournament games, or a class wide-activity, or a puzzle challenge, with free chess-play after students finish.5 minutes to clean up our space and gather our things for dismissal. In the event that school is closed on the day we have chess club (inclement weather, power outages, or other emergency), we will offer a make-up class online via Zoom and LiChess.org . The Club is hosted by the Chess Association of Snohomish County and Neighboring Areas (CASCANA). We are a 501(c)(3), tax-deductible, non-profit organization. Because our mission is to grow chess in Snohomish County and beyond, need-based scholarships will be provided for those who apply, and also to those who are selected as parent volunteers.
