The Danny Woo Community Garden is the biggest public green space in the Chinatown International District. 75+ low-income senior immigrants and refugees, who were farmers in their home countries, grow familiar foods across over 100 garden plots. Local middle school classes come for hands-on gardening classes and older youth interns support and learn from gardeners.&nbsp; Our gardener community are CID residents living in apartments, they said they missed the sound of chickens and access to farm fresh eggs. Over 10 years ago, Curt McGuire of InterIm CDA&#39;s Board of Directors, designed a chicken run and community volunteers built it. Gardeners take turns caring for the chickens and whoever cares for them gets the collected eggs that day. They say hearing the hens while working in their gardens makes them feel deeply nostalgic for their homelands. Visiting kids and youth love to learn about and take care of the chickens too.&nbsp; Help us welcome our newest flock, 9 hens, by choosing names for them! We aim to raise funding for the long-term care of our chickens while also involving our community in the naming process. A donation of $5 will allow you to submit a name idea for the chicken of your choosing. You can submit as many ideas for as many chickens as you want, each entry is $5. We will choose the names of the chickens through a drawing at the CID Flock Party on August 29th!&nbsp; You do not have to be at the Flock Party to win, we will share all of the chickens&#39; names after the Flock Party.&nbsp; All funding will be used for organic food pellets, bedding, vet visits, chicken coop maintenance and repairs, treats, and sand for dust baths.&nbsp; Want to sponsor a chicken&#39;s year-round care AND receive adorable chicken-related updates?
