Climate Justice is Public Health: Understanding environmental health impacts on South Asian Americans is an advocacy webinar hosted by the South Asian Public Health Association (SAPHA) that will explore the importance of advocating for climate justice and how it intersects with public health. Workshop participants will learn more about the climate justice movement, SAPHA's Climate Health Task Force, and our climate health toolkit, as well as how environmental health is critical to the overall health and well-being of South Asian Americans. We will be joined by Kevin Patel, an LA-based impact leader and policy advisor working at the intersection of culture, creativity, and civic changemaking. As the Founder of Earth Era Institute and its predecessor, OneUpAction International, Kevin builds platforms for intergenerational leadership on community-rooted climate solutions driven by culture and strategic storytelling. Previously, Kevin founded and chaired the LA County Youth Climate Commission (2022–2025), shaping one of the nation’s first youth-led policy bodies. He is also an LA28 Next-Gen Council Member and Co-Founder of the Broadway Climate Summit, Youth Impact Council, and Earth Era Studios. Kevin serves as an Ambassador for Amazon Watch and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, an Ambassador and Board Member of the Keystone Species Alliance, and a Board Member of Climate Words and the LA Climate Week/Colliscape Foundation. As a National Geographic Explorer (2020) and a Corporate Strategy, Community & Cultural Engagement Strategist, Kevin brings a cross-sector perspective to organizations and movements reimagining what’s possible and creating new pathways toward a more equitable future.
