How a story sharing potluck works:Participants are invited to bring a dish to share and a short story to go with their offering. Attendees are given a list of story prompts to shape the meal&rsquo;s conversations. The prompts, which center around food, are both personal and nonpartisan, encourage discussions that go deeper than small talk such as &ldquo;Share a story about a food that your mom made that you never liked,&rdquo; or, &ldquo;Share a story about a food that reminds you a specific place.&rdquo; Throughout the meal, participants share stories around the table based on these prompts. At the end of the meal, an organized lineup of practiced storytellers perform or read stories they&rsquo;ve prepared on the event&rsquo;s theme to entertain and inspire. In the weeks following the meal, recipes and stories are collected into a small community cookbook and distributed to those who came to the event. We are so excited to come together on Saturday, October 11 for Community Day #12 at Surf Point in York, Maine!&nbsp; A few reminders and instructions: 1. Arrival at the Potluck. From 11am-11:30, we&rsquo;ll be checking people in, give everyone a name tag, and a &ldquo;recipe card&rdquo; on which we ask you to write your dish, your name, a little info about the dish, and (THIS IS IMPORTANT) any ingredients that other guests will need to be aware of for any dietary restrictions or food allergies. Even if you bring a print-out of your recipe, we ask that you still fill out one of the cards. 2. Parking and directions: Our address and directions to Surf Point can be found here: http://surfpoint.me/directions. Please note: GPS should work to take you to Surf Point, but sometimes it lands you at another house nearby instead of at 32 Surf Point Road, so referencing the directions can be helpful. Internet &amp; reception can be spotty in the last 15 minutes of the drive, so we recommend screenshotting or printing out the directions for easy reference. Parking is creative. There are spots along the driveway and in our small parking lot. Please carpool if you can. 3. Don&#39;t forget to bring your recipe! If you are making something to bring, please bring a printout of your recipe with a story, or some information about the recipe, plus your name, phone number, and email address on the printout. If you are bringing something that doesn&#39;t have a recipe, but has a story behind it, you can bring a print out of that, too! We collect the recipes and stories when you arrive so that we can produce the small community cookbook with recipes and stories from the evening. Everyone who attends will get a free copy! 4. And now the fun part! At a Story Sharing Lunch, we all get to share stories with each other. We have a great lineup of storytellers who will entertain us during coffee and dessert, but over the course of the meal, we&#39;ll introduce a few story prompts that you can use to share stories about yourself and get to know other attendees. We like to give these out in advance so you have some time to consider them. Of course, you don&#39;t have to share a story if you don&#39;t want to, but if any of these prompts spark an idea of a story to share, your supper neighbors would love to hear it! Our theme for the evening is &quot;A Work of Hope&quot; Here are the story prompts for October 11: - Share a story about a meaningful meal you shared with someone. What made it meaningful?- Share a story about a food that you once hated, but now you love. What changed?- Share a story about a meal you ate with a stranger. 6. Make a new connection! Finally, when sharing food with friends and neighbors, basic food safety is always on our mind.
