<div><div>We open our 2025 season of Community Sessions with Slim Chance (Slim Chance &amp; the Convicts), Danny “Mudcat” Dudeck and Elise Witt.  Slim Chance well-known locally as the one of the founders of the “Redneck Underground” plays his signature brand of alt country/roots rock.  Mudcat is an internationally known gospel and bluesman continuing the traditions of the early blues pioneers while adding his own Mudcat special sauce. And Elise Witt is a folk artist whose performance of her original tunes “is like a suitcase plastered with stickers from around the world... populated with interesting characters both heroic and comic” (Raliegh Times). Community Sessions is Sunday, February 23rd starting at 4pm in the  Little 5 Points Community Center 1083 Austin Avenue, Atlanta, GA  30307. It’s the same building as the WRFG studios. Parking is available in the back gravel lot. There is elevator access to the 2nd floor where  the event is being held. For accessibility, please email office@wrfg.org  . Slim Chance and the Convicts were formed in early 1986 on Mansfield  Avenue in L5P, starting as a grad school pressure release and a reason to  drink and bang on yard sale instruments. Their first gig was at an institution for people with developmental disabilities, and their second was in front of  the Plaza Theater. Eventually taking up residence in the legendary Austin  Avenue Buffet, the Convicts expanded their repertoire to include mostly  original songs and obscure covers and drew big crowds at the blue collar  watering hole for many years. With many personnel changes over the last  38 years, the cornerstone has long been Slim's original country songs, a  skill he learned from a very talented father and a massive record collection.  Addressing all of the traditional country music themes, such as drinking,  cheating, fighting, prison, romance, and Mama (along with homelessness,  poverty, loss of loved ones, and other social issues), the 3-time Creative  Loafing "Best Country Band" has released 3 albums, and songs have  appeared on numerous compilations. Based in Cabbagetown since 1992, the band still performs at various events, fundraisers, and parties around town.  Credited as the "Godfather" of Atlanta's "Redneck Underground" alt  country/roots rock scene, Slim still writes songs, and still enjoys life to the  fullest. Elise’s concerts of Global, Local &amp; Homemade Songs™and her Impromptu  Glorious Chorus™ workshops create and connect singing communities  around the world. Born in Switzerland, raised in NC, and living in Atlanta  since 1977, Elise speaks 5 1/2 languages fluently and sings in at least a  dozen more. I have witnessed him light up packed houses at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, at the Irving Plaza in New York, to open air concerts in front of 10,000 folks in Lugano, Switzerland, to sitting on a curb in San Jose, Costa Rica entertaining dozens of young kids.
