Students will work together to create a giant class piñata to crack open on the final day while also designing their own take-home piñata to finish and celebrate with family and friends. Along the way, we'll explore the history of piñatas, learn construction and decorating techniques, enjoy a few extra gooey art projects, and spend time outdoors when possible. Best for kids who don't mind getting a little messy! Monday, Wednesday, Friday12:30–3:00 PM The Art of Story: Telling TalesStudents will explore storytelling through games, creative writing, illustration, performance, and outdoor adventures. Weather permitting, we'll visit nearby natural spaces to inspire original stories and imaginative worlds. Tuesday &amp; Thursday9:00–11:30 AM Batik for Kids: Wearable Art Why do a painting for the wall when you can wear it instead? Batik is beautiful, but also tricky. We'll take a shortcut and do a simpler version of this fun resist art. Bring in any 100% cotton material - a bag, a tee, anything with an open unprinted area to experiment on, you can even bring more than one. We will do all that we can and play along the way with color and design. Meet Your Instructor, Lara Fahnlander! Lara has a Master of Art Education and a BS in Elementary Education with specialties in Art and Early Childhood. She has earned her living as an art teacher, muralist and herbalist and is newly getting back into floor loom weaving. She has taught for the Duluth Art Institute, Fairbanks Folk School, Donkey Mill Art Center Hawaii as well as in Latvia, New Zealand, Alaska, New Mexico, Montana and Hawaii. She has painted murals in AK, CA, HI, KS &amp; MN. Her favorites are painting for children's spaces on themes around animals, plants and nature.
