"Principal for a Day" is a fun and exciting experience where a student gets the opportunity to step into the shoes of their school principal for the day! They get to make decisions about what happens around the school, help out with important tasks, and even announce special events over the loudspeaker. From leading morning announcements to observing classrooms, this special role gives the student a glimpse into the responsibilities and challenges that come with running a school. It’s a day full of leadership, learning, and a little bit of fun, all while gaining a greater appreciation for the work that goes into making the school a great place to learn!

The Fourth Grade Team will offer a Hike to Rainbow Falls. Parents can drop their kids off with plenty of water, snacks, and a lunch. If parents would like they are welcome to hike, too. We will hike, have a picnic lunch, and give each student a sketchbook for them to use at rest places to sketch what they see. The loop is 2.6 miles long and will take about 3-3.5 hours with the breaks we will be taking. We will take 3-6 students total. We would love to do it a Saturday in May or early June, between the hours of 10am-1:00pm.

Born and raised in Chattanooga, Wayne has used his memories of the South to create inspired works for film, television, and the fine art world. After graduating from Middle Tennessee State University, Wayne traveled to New York City where he worked as an illustrator for the East Village Eye, New York Times, Raw Magazine, and the Village Voice. In 1986, Wayne became a designer for the hit television show Pee-wee’s Playhouse, and his work was awarded with three Emmys. After traveling to Los Angeles with his wife, Mimi Pond, Wayne continued to work in television and designed sets and characters for shows such as Shining Time Station, Beakman’s World, Riders In The Sky, and Bill & Willis. He also worked in the music video industry, winning Billboard and MTV Music Video Awards as an art director for seminal music videos including The Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Tonight, Tonight’ and Peter Gabriel’s ‘Big Time.’ More recently, Wayne has had great success as a fine artist and has created paintings and public works that have been shown all over the world. His most successful works have been the world paintings featuring oversized, three-dimensional text painstakingly integrated into vintage landscape reproductions. The message of the paintings is often thought-provoking and almost always humorous, with Wayne pointing a finger at vanity, ego, and his memories of the South. Mark Bradley-Shoup earned his BFA from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in Painting and Drawing and his MFA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Studio Art. Bradley-Shoup produces meticulously crafted paintings and works on paper based in part on his own manipulated photographs of both urban and rural environments. He employs extensive use of masking tape, rulers and x-acto blades to generate precise areas of paint that emphasize the surface texture of his compositions in a way that undermines any elements of photorealist illusion. Prevalent themes in his work include “consumption and growth,” “expansion and recession,” and “the elegance of brutality.” He has worked with various non-profit agencies and educational institutions including the Hunter Museum of American Art, the Association for Visual Arts, Allied Arts of Greater Chattanooga, the Creative Discovery Museum, Chattanooga Parks, Recreation, Arts and Culture, and the Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences. Currently, Bradley-Shoup is based in Chattanooga and is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga. Bob Wright is a photographer living in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He has worked for the Hunter Art Museum, started Framewrights and has installed artwork all over the world.
