Spirits with the Spectres

On Saturday, October 21st, 60 ticket holders will gather at 5:30 PM for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres in the Historic Strater Hotel's Pullman Ballroom for a preview of the night's events. Programming will begin at 6:00 PM.  Guests will leave the Strater at 6:30 PM to rotate, in groups of 20, through three locations during the evening: the basement of the Hermosa Cafe, The Durango Winery/Subterrain, and the underground tunnel beneath El Rancho Tavern. At each location, guests will enjoy a signature cocktail, beer, or wine and hors d'oeuvre as well as a haunted history of the location from a representative of Durango's very own Horsefly History Tours and a 5-minute story from a 9-R teacher who has benefitted from a Durango Education Foundation grant.  There will be a drawing for prizes at each stop. At the evening's end, guests will return for the announcement of silent auction winners, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory truffles and salted caramels, and our gratitude. Tickets for the event cost $150 each.  Many thanks to our sponsors who have made this event possible: The Historic Strater Hotel, Horsefly History Tours, Naomi Marty of Wells Fargo, El Moro, 2nd Avenue Sports, Honeyville, Ska Brewing, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, El Rancho Tavern, The Hermosa Cafe, The Subterrain, The Durango Fitness Club, The General Palmer Hotel, the Boulevard Skin Bar, Animas Plastic Surgery, The Subterrain, and the Durango Winery.

This event is a walking historical tour of downtown Durango. It is unusual in that patrons will access underground locations during the event. We want to make sure that everyone has a great time at the event and stays safe, so here are some considerations for each patron: Alcohol: This event is for patrons 21 years and older. Alcohol will be present in addition to non-alcoholic drink options. We request that all patrons who choose to drink alcohol at the event do so responsibly. Navigation: This tour is a walking tour of downtown Durango. Entry into underground locations includes frequent navigation of stairs and uneven terrain in addition to the underground ballroom of the Strater Hotel. Tour Content: Historical information shared for this event includes narratives common to Durango's history including subjects of general violence, homicide, suicide, and prostitution. Information may not be suitable for all. Please contact Durango Education Foundation Director, Wendy Allsbrook Javier, at 970-769-7600 if you have additional questions/concerns about the event's accessibility or content.
