Join us for a new fundraising event to support the new Puck’s Scholars Fund and send more kids to Kentucky Shakespeare's Camp Shakespeare! Bakes for Shakes is an interfaith challah bake dreamed up by Fay, a 12-year-old alumni of Camp Shakespeare. At the event, we will make challah dough from provided ingredients that you can then take home to bake. Listen to some fun music, talk about the tradition of challah baking, and get a peak into what Camp Shakespeare is all about. This is a fun event suitable for adults and children over 8. The goal for the event is to help send kids to Camp Shakespeare by starting the Puck’s Scholars Fund.

Fay’s Story
Fay is a 12-year-old with a big heart and a passion for theater. Having attended Shakespeare Camp since she was 5 years old, she is deeply committed to the value the camp provides to youth in the community. When it came time for her to complete a community service project as part of her Bat Mitzvah preparations, she wanted to do something to help others experience the joys of theater and learning Shakespeare now and in the future. With some guidance from her family and the amazing staff at Kentucky Shakespeare, she started planning an event to create scholarships for Kentucky Shakespeare Camp, but Fay wanted to make sure that it isn’t something that just happens once, so she has committed to not only this year’s event, but to raising the funds to endow Puck’s Scholars as a perpetual scholarship to send kids to Shakespeare Camp who may otherwise not be able to afford to go. Here are Fay’s words about why she chose Puck’s Scholars and Bakes for Shakes.
Why Puck’s Scholars?
I chose to support Kentucky Shakespeare's Camp Shakespeare because it was the thing that got me interested in theater. I discovered a love for Shakespeare that carries over into many things I do and how I perform. The friends I made were people who made me feel like I truly belong at Shakespeare Camp. It just clicked for me when I got there… I was with my people. Going to Shakespeare camp was one of the things that I want everyone to experience that is why I created Puck’s Scholars. I named it Puck’s Scholars because Puck was one of my favorite roles to play ever and it was a role I have played quite a few times.
Why Bakes for Shakes?
Bakes for Shakes was created with my love for both baking challah and theater. It is interfaith because even though baking challah is a Jewish tradition I want barriers to be broken down so that everyone can be seen as equals and not be turned away due to the fact that someone has a different religion. Baking challah is my favorite tradition because it lets me spend time with my mom and it reaps the sweet reward of having something delicious to eat in the end.
