A democracy is only as strong as who shows up to shape it. Yet participation in the U.S. is deeply uneven: women, Hispanic and Black Americans, young people, and people with disabilities consistently vote and engage in civic life at lower rates than other groups — not from apathy, but from structural barriers like unequal access to information, caregiving demands, historical exclusion, accessibility gaps, and disconnection from civic institutions. This dialogue asks why these gaps persist, what it would take to close them, and what we can learn from other parts of the world.
