Their mission was to bring joy to children fighting critical illnesses so they'd never feel alone. Since forming, Project Fire Buddies has expanded to more than 150 community chapters—including the Downers Grove Professional Firefighters Local 3234. Project Fire Buddies sponsors critically ill children and establishes regular visits with the local fire department, outings for the family, and when needed, additional medical and financial assistance. Project Fire Buddies is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that uses donations from businesses and independent donors to support the program’s goals. Members are dedicated to supporting the needs of their Fire Buddy, and also work to raise money for the broader organization through fundraising events.
