Songs and Singing Games from Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Spain Come sing, play, move, create, and experience joy with living music traditions from Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Spain. Participants will engage in repertoire that the presenter learned from playgrounds, classrooms, and families while living abroad. The activities allow for musical play and movement, encourage lyrical improvisation, and foster community. The Spanish texts are accessible to learn and field videos will be shown to demonstrate the songs&rsquo; authentic contexts. Strategies for integrating the collection within Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Pedagogies will also be discussed.&nbsp; Dr. Rachel Gibson is a professor of music in Massachusetts and is an active local, national, and international clinician. Her book &iexcl;Canta Conmigo! Songs and Singing Games from Guatemala and Nicaragua (Oxford University Press, 2021) is a comprehensive teaching resource that includes songs and singing games she learned while living in Central America. As a Fulbright Global Scholar(2021), she taught and researched at Universidad de M&aacute;laga in Spain and travelled throughout the country learning children&rsquo;s songs from local musicians. Dr. Gibson was presidentof Kod&aacute;ly Educators of Southern New England (KESNE), member-at-large for ConnecticutAmerican Orff-Schulwerk Association (CTAOSA) and served on the Organization of AmericanKod&aacute;ly Educators (OAKE) National Board of Directors, and on summer faculty at the West TexasKod&aacute;ly Initiative (WTKI) in Lubbock, TX. Once I left school, I began playing with rock bands, noise ensembles, and avant-garde improvisers, some of them arguably unlistenable and some of them truly sublime.&nbsp; &nbsp; I began working as a luthier in 1999 when I brought my viola into Axelrod Music (once Providence&#39;s oldest music store) to have a crack repaired. There I met the wonderful Gene Malone who had been working at Axelrod since the 1950&#39;s. I apprenticed with Gene for 5 years. Axelrod had a very large rental program, and I was able to cut my teeth on hundreds of instruments in various states of destruction and disrepair. At this point, I have seen most of the things that can go wrong with an instrument. In 2004, I began working out of my own shop.&nbsp;I have attended the University of New Hampshire Summer Violin Program and learned about new facets of technique and craft that I can bring to my work. I am excited to know that there will always be room to improve my understanding and abilities as a luthier. &nbsp; &nbsp;I am passionate about sharing the experience of music either by teaching people to play, playing alongside them or making their instruments play as well as possible.&nbsp;
