Tacoma South Rotary's 28th Annual Mini-Golf Tournament, Friday, October 18, 2024
Doors open at 5 PM
For the past twenty-eight years, Tacoma South Rotary club has invited fellow Rotarians, their friends, families, and the community to spend an evening playing eighteen holes of miniature golf laid out over two floors of Harkness Furniture Store on South Tacoma Way. The small but mighty Tacoma South Rotary club has raised over $1.5 million in these years.
Last October, Tacoma South raised more than $80,000 for local charities by playing miniature golf in a furniture store. A furniture store? Yes, a furniture store.
Why hold a fundraiser in a furniture store? Tacoma South Rotary charter member Dave Harkness, owner of Harkness Furniture, says, "Rotary gives Harkness Furniture the opportunity to give back locally, area-wide and globally. We know all dollars pass through to the ultimate charities and scholarship recipients without administrative costs. Rotary is the conduit to make sure our dollars are maximized in giving back to the community and the world."

Doors open at 5 PM for cocktails, raffle, no-host bar, music and Silent Auction. Dinner's at 6, followed by the 'Raise the Paddle.' Tee Time's at 7 PM.
In just twenty minutes at last year's event, Tacoma South raised over $40,000 during the 'Raise the Paddle' portion of the evening to provide training equipment to outfit 100 Service Dog Teams through American Military Families Action Network's "100 Service Dogs for 100 Veterans" program.
The Skoolie Foundation is Tacoma South's 2024 'Raise the Paddle' recipient. The Skoolie Foundation converts old school buses into self-contained Mobile Shelters. $40,000 will fund the family shower in the Empowerment bus – a converted bus designed to serve as a mobile hygiene facility. Equipped with four safe and secure showers, hygiene supplies, and private changing areas, the bus will also serve as a hub for outreach programs connecting people experiencing homelessness with community resources.
Want to play? Talk to your friends, colleagues, neighbors, and family and put together a foursome. Cost? $75 per person, includes dinner and drinks script. Don't want to play putt-putt? You'll have a rad time enjoying the music, dinner, and fun for just $30. Each golf hole is decorated and manned by small businesses and some of the nonprofits funded over the years.
