A raffle of a Johnson Permeameter™ (valued at $4700) with 100% of proceeds going to The Virginia Tech soil judging team Endowment Fund.

The Virginia Tech soil judging team is part of a registered student organization and the team has a need for an endowment fund. Virginia Tech is one of a few universities in the country that does not have an endowment to support the team. We gain funds from several sources: 1) we do fundraising by selling merchandise for about 1/10 of the total, 2) we gain about 1/5 from the Student Government Association, 3) we send out letters requesting donations that go into our Foundation interest-earning account for about 2/5, 4) we receive reimbursement from the School (department) for about 1/5, and Dr. Galbraith uses other funds to cover the rest and to buy color books, etc. An endowment would not raise enough interest to cover ongoing expenses, but it would cover the cost of attending the regional contest each year (about 1/3 of our annual costs). The minimum amount to establish an endowment is $100,000, and we currently have almost 1/3 of that. The first $20,000 of donations will be matched.
