Preservation Bloomfield and the Friends of Preservation Bloomfield invite you to -Historical Haunts- at the century-old country estate of auto baron Hugh Chalmers. On Friday, October 18th, guests will have the rare opportunity to experience this elegant, historic 1920s Bloomfield Township home as it is graciously opened for the evening by its owners. Enjoy a strolling dinner with live music and stories from the era, along with a silent auction. But beware! Families who have lived here through the decades describe a strange energy surrounding the house and recount many paranormal happenings. A psychic medium will be on hand to help interpret anything unusual. Over 15 years ago, Preservation Bloomfield, a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization, was formed. It grew out of a unique and ongoing collaboration of the City of Bloomfield Hills, the Charter Township of Bloomfield, the Bloomfield Hills Schools, and the Bloomfield Historical Society to save two pre-Civil War Bloomfield homes, the Barton farmhouse and the Craig log cabin. With enthusiastic support from the community, Preservation Bloomfield moved them both to the Bowers School Farm and restored them to be used in the educational and social enrichment of our children and community. Today, Preservation Bloomfield continues to maintainthese two pioneer-era homes to provide an authentic setting for school classes to experience the story of our local history as well as a venue for group meetings such as book clubs, recitals, and corporate retreats. All funds raised from this event will go directly to support our ongoing work of preserving and maintaining the Barton Farmhouse and the Craig log cabin, not to salaries or overhead.
