Bean Dinner Ticket - To-Go Dining

26th Annual Big Bean Dinner November 17, 2022, at Bream Memorial Presbyterian Church, 317 W Washington St Charleston WV 25302. Featuring a down-home Southern menu - meat or veggie brown beans, cornbread, collard greens, roasted potatoes, mac and cheese, coleslaw, and a sampling of desserts.  Music will be provided by Angela Jones. Silent Auction items include a variety of desserts prepared by volunteers, themed gift baskets, and gift certificates. The same cook – Margaret Easton – has been making the beans each year. She is the sister of RCCR’s first Executive Director, Sandra Hamlin. This event is RCCR's premier fundraiser and allows us to continue providing exceptional housing and services to the homeless, men in recovery, justice impacted, and low-income families.  This Fall, we are advancing affordable housing with the rehabilitation of a motel in Jefferson, WV and 3 multifamily properties on Charleston West Side. These projects help to revitalize the community by creating 32 affordable rental units for individuals and families making less than 50% Area Median Income (AMI). In addition, we are building 4 single family homes in Dunbar, 1 single family home in North Charleston, and rehabbing 2 single family homes on Charleston’s West Side all for first time home buyers at 80% AMI. We continue to provide housing counseling services to first time home buyers and now provide foreclosure prevention services to homeowners facing a financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At RCCR, a person can go from homelessness to homeownership through four program areas:  Recovery housing - provides a safe environment for men to recover from addiction and homelessness. The Samaritan Inn, established in 1989, has helped over 800 men transition back into society with a stable job, affordable housing, and an effective personal recovery program. Rental housing - for low-and moderate-income families and individuals who earn 50% or less of the Area Median Income. Rentals are safe and affordable efficiencies, 1- and 2-bedroom units across the city of Charleston, Saint Albans, and Hurricane. Home ownership - which includes individual housing counseling for prospective first-time home buyers, foreclosure prevention for homeowners, and new home development for families who earn 80% or less of the Area Median Income. Since 1995, RCCR has helped over 700 families to become first time homeowners.   Supportive Community Services - provides services to persons experiencing homelessness including a managed storage center to store their personal belongings; rapid rehousing to help families who are currently homeless and those who are justice impacted quickly find housing and cover their rental start-up costs; street outreach that engages with people living in unsheltered locations to ensure their basic needs are met while supporting them along pathways toward housing stability.
